Piazza History
Piazza by Anthony opened its doors in November 2008, in the elegant surroundings of Leeds Finest Historical Building
- The Leeds Corn Exchange, as the anchor tenants of a £1.5 million refurbishment program to restore it to its former glory and
redevelop it as a Food Emporium.
The Piazza occupies the entire ground floor of the corn exchange in a space which totals over 13,000 sq ft, and was
opened with the aim of offering a more diverse range of food products appealing to a broader customer base, all under one roof.
Corn Exchange History
The Corn Exchange is a grade 1 listed building located in the heart of Leeds' bustling shopping and leisure district,
it is widely regarded as one of Britain's finest Victorian buildings and part of the architectural heritage of Leeds, it was designed
in 1861 by an internationally known architect from Hull; Cuthbert Brodrick and with its Large Glazed roof and expansive trading floor it
spend the early part of its life being used as the name suggests; To Exchange and sell Corn. As time went on following the closure of
the Corn Exchange the buildings condition deteriorated and in 1990 it was refurbished as a shopping centre, 18 years later, and the
building use has almost come full circle, with its recent redevelopment as a food emporium, bringing it back to its roots as a place
to trade and sell food products.
